The Role
It was really enjoyable. The work was varied and interesting and as you got to choose the department you were in before starting you were prepared for what you may have to do. The social evenings that were organised were also a really good park of the two weeks and showed how the work/life balance may work.
You are given alot of responsibility from the moment you start which helps you feel like one of the team straight away.
I was given guidance before starting all pieces of work and I felt that I could go and ask more questions if I needed to.
It all depends on what you want to get from the placement - there were times when you could have been doing little but if you actively seek work you get a good balance.
I was given quite alot of responsibility and was often asked to stop working on one task in order to complete something more urgent. This meant I also got involved in a lot of pieces of work.
This experience will help me in making decisions about the type of firm that I want to work in and has helped me to identify which of my skills are particularly relevant to a career in commercial law. The training I recieved has also shown me what it will be like to be a trainee which means I now know what to expect which is very useful for a career in commercial law.
The Company
Everyone was really friendly and welcoming. They were also always willing to help.
We were given a timetable at the start of the two weeks detailing the activities that we would be involved in which was kept to very well. Everything was given an adequate time slot which meant you had enough time to show your skills to the firm whilst also learning about the work you would be doing.
The firm invested a lot of time in us by explaining all of the tasks we had to complete and by taking time out of their day to run presentations on each of the practice groups.

I would love to work for Pinsent Masons, especially based on my experiences of the last two weeks. The experience has heightened my view of the firm as a whole and learning more about the available trainee opportunities has helped a great deal with this.
The Culture
We had two organised social events and office drinks where the trainees and vacation scheme students could interact. All of the vacation scheme students got on really well which made the experience even better.
I didn't have much experience of this but it seems to depend where in Birmingham you go. Some places seem quite expensive whilst others are cheaper.
I didn't personally experience the nightlife whilst doing the vacation scheme but I have heard that it can be quite good.
There were two social evenings organised for us during the experience and we were given the opportunity to play on a firm football match if we wanted to.
