The Role
The placement was the perfect opportunity to experience the work of a trainee solicitor first-hand.
Colleagues were always willing to help and answer questions. I also felt the work I completed contributed to the team's overall aims.
They were always happy to answer any questions I had.
My department got me involved with their work as much as possible but it was fairly quiet whilst I was there. However, this gave me an opportunity to get involved with the other department working in the same room and gain a wider breadth of experience. I have found it's very important to be proactive in finding work from others when your buddy may be struggling to find something for you to do.
Only working in the department for two weeks and not having any previous legal experience means you can't expect to be given huge amounts of responsibility. However, the tasks I was able to get involved with were still important and relevant to what the team as a whole were doing.
The placement has been very useful in giving me an insight intot the work of corporate lawyers and has confirmed my ambition to pursue a career in this field.
The Company
Very friendly. The office is open plan and the partners' doors are always open. I always felt that I could approach people with any questions.
Very well organised. All placements, social events and assessments ran according to plan and we were always informed of where we were expected to be an when.
Having only two weeks here means there was not enough time for the firm to invest any real time in personal development. However, the placement provides you with the ideal opportunity to learn as much as you can about this career.

Sports and Social Club
We are all assessed for training contracts.
The Culture
Social events included minigolf followed by a restaurant meal and then a comedy club during the second week. In addition, there were also office drinks which we were all invited to.
I commuted from home.
There wasn't a great deal of time for enjoying the nightlife but Birmingham has plenty to offer.
We had the opportunity to play for the firm in a inter-firm football tournament.
