The Role
I learnt a lot about the area I was working in trough doing client related work, so this was a real positive. Everyone I worked with was really supportive and friendly. The only real negative aspect was that the internship was not structured that well and as a result I sometimes found myself with nothing to do.
Whilst the tasks I was assigned to were quite basic all the people I worked with were grateful for what I did and provided useful feedback.
This was one of the less positive aspects as my supervisor largely left me to find things to do on my own. This was fine as everyone was very friendly, but it would have been good to have more structure and someone to help me throughout the 2 weeks.
I was reasonably busy all of the time, but had a few instances where I had no work to do. Overall though balance was very good.
I got to work on client work, but this was all checked/sharpened up before it was used. However given I was only at the office for 2 weeks this is to be expected.
I learnt quite a lot, in particular some of the work I did involved compiling a report of an industry and this developed my research skills and also my writing style. Working solidly from 8.30 to 5 is also a valuable experience and worth having.
The Company
Everyone was very friendly and the office seemed like a great atmosphere to work in. Everyone went out for drinks at the end of the week, so overall seemed good
The internship was well organised overall, and there were never any major issues in this respect. It would have been slightly better if once i joined the team a more structured approach would have been taken with finding stuff for me to do as I was only there for a short time.
I was only at the office for 2 weeks, so perhaps this is not relevant as I did not get any training as such. Having said that I still learnt a lot.
Subsidised Canteen
Overall the firm made a very positive impression and I would definitely be interested in a summer internship/job i the future. The first year internship also enables you skip part of the application process for the summer internship.
The Culture
There were only 16 of us on the internship, and we were all working in different teams, but we met a few times for drinks/lunch. Had we have been there longer and if there were more of us I think more would have been arranged
the office was in Canary wharf which was an awesome place to work, but was also quite expensive.
Canary wharf has quite a few bars etc, so overall it was good. Although I only got limited chances to experience this.
Not much really - there are CSR type activities arranged through KPMG, but I was not there long enough to take part in these
