The Role
My work placement was one of the best experiences I've ever had, it really opened my eyes into the world of work and what was beyond university.
When I first started, I was really warmly welcomed and now nearly finishing my year I really feel apart of the team, not just colleagues, but friends.
I was given quite a lot of support from my managers, however not as much as I would of expected on certain aspects of my role I had not come across.
It was so-so on a daily basis, I could be rushed off my feet on day and twiddling my thumbs another, however me thinking to myself this was a perfect time to show my initiative in getting more work and explanations on anything I didn't understand.
I was given quite a lot of responsibility as I definitely felt as soon as my managers thought I was ready, it was a case of giving me work and just letting me get on with it.
The skills I have developed will definitely help me through my last year at university and even through day to day life, it's been a real insight to not just what kind of job i want in the future, but also how an organisation is run.
The Company
In my office it was quiet, but working in Finance the quiet was a god-send when going through aspects of the job. However, on days when I was less busy, it was nice to get into plant to actually see where the money and training was being spent.
As the placement with Vauxhall has been running for quite a few years, the whole experience from the assessment centre to the setting up of training and sorting out responsibilities for each role was done seamlessly and in my eyes has fulfilled my expectations.
The first week we had a lot of training, pretty much everyday, from safe driving to fire safety. Training was on offer throughout the placement to anyone who would like it when any opportunities arose.

As our undergraduate placements are replaced every year, getting a job straight away after university may not be possibly, however, if we do express an interest they do take our contact details and let us know if any opportunities arise.
The Culture
There was a great social atmosphere amongst the placement students as there was 20 of us in total, 9 of us lived in, meaning we were out quite a lot of the time for social events and were able to let the other placement students who lived further away stay over and be able to come out with us.
It wasn't too pricey, but wasn't the cheapest on a night-out, it was a reasonable amount and from the points of view from the southerners it was definitely cheaper than London, so bonus.
The nightlife in Chester was really good, however, going out there everytime it can get abit monotonous, so we used to mix it up by going to Liverpool on big nights-out that everyone could make.
Outside of work not so many activities to do with work, it was mainly whatever the undergraduates had planned for any social events.
