The Role
I enjoyed it greatly. I learned a lot, got on very well with my colleagues and superiors and secured a training contract at the end of it.
It was clear that a lot of effort went into making the participants in the vacation scheme feel integrated and involved. We had many opportunities to meet colleagues at all levels, from trainees to the managing partner. The atmosphere was very welcoming and encouraging.
This varied from person to person and with circumstances, i.e. how busy they were. But on the whole I always felt that there was someone I could turn to for help.
It was more or less down to me how busy I wanted to be. I was not overloaded with work or pressured into doing more than I felt capable of. I tried to proactively procure tasks and still had time for the many events that were put on for us during the placement.
I felt that I was trusted to do a good job in the tasks I was entrusted with, and even had the chance to research a particular point of law and best practice that was raised in a departmental meeting. I also significantly contributed to drafting an article that was to be published by a partner.
The skills I picked up certainly helped in my studies and will hopefully help even more once I join the firm!
The Company
Professional but friendly and open. On the whole everybody was very approachable and seemed genuinely interested in getting to know us.
The organisation was impressive, both in the amount of work that must have gone into planning and organising the numerous events including a cookery course and a visit to the theatre, and in the way the whole programme was thought through so that we would derive the maximum benefit from it.
There were several skills sessions that were quite helpful.

Company Parties/Events
I did get a job with them and look forward to starting it soon!
The Culture
The atmosphere between all the participants was very friendly and cooperative.
I spent half of my time in London, which was fine because I live there. The other half was spent in Zurich which has an astronomical cost of living. It is however a ver pleasant place that I look forward to visiting again.
I did not explore the nightlife in the City too much.
As mentioned above, there were numerous and varied events that gave us a chance to socialise with each other and with trainees at the firm outside the office.
