The Role
I looked forward to going to work every morning, the first time I have ever experienced this!
My supervisor gave me a lot of work that was clearly of value, and emailed me after the placement to let me know that my work was going to be used in ongoing cases. I really feel that my inupt was valued
I knew I could always turn to someone in my department, or even the firm generally, for help. My trainee buddy was really helpful when dealing with areas of work that I was unfamiliar with, or when I was worried about missing a dealine etc
I was kept busy with a great variety of high quality work. The team project also helped to fill out my time
I really appreciated the responsibility I was given, particularly in legal research. On a couple of ocassions my research was used by Partners when giving advice to clients, and it was really encouraging to be given such a lot of responsibility.
I developed a huge range of skills whilst on this vac scheme. Above all, I feel more confident of my ability to work in a commercial law firm.. I will use this confidence in my legal career.
The Company
The department was a really fun place to work. Everyone was friendly and accepting from the start of the vac scheme and did their best to get me involved in department lunches and other events.
There was a perfect balance of high quality department work, teamwork with other people on the vac scheme (through the project task) and socials in the evening. Bowling and karaoke were a personal highlight.
Everyone I met was generous with their time, from trainees to Partners. Both my supervisor and my buddy spent a lot of time explaining areas of law or clients to me before giving me tasks. Even where they could have carried out the task themselves very easily, they delegated to me and took the time to explain everything. I really appreciated this investment of their time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I have not yet heard back from this firm.
The Culture
We met up outside of work hours throughout the vacation scheme and I feel that we all got on well as a group
Not too bad, as the firm is not based in the City, but a little further west
Fairly limited - a couple of good pubs and restaurants
There were events and activities at least 3 times a week
