The Role
I was kept very buzy throughout my placement given real work to do with real deadlines made the job intresting and feel like I was really part of the team.
Everyone in my team all worked together very well, all similier adges were more than happy to help and spend time explaing issues as and when necessary.
As and when required.
There is very few days from my year that I can remember I was short of tasks that I could do!
The work issued to me was equally important as the work issued to any graduate developers. I was trusted to go away and not be checked up on all the time knowing that the work would be complete to the agreed timescale and to an high standard.
I never thought that I could learn so much in a year! It will certainly help me though my final year at uni and with future graduate employment. At Cognito I not only improved my technical ability but also my personal skills improved greatly.
The Company
The web team was a really nice team to be in - everyone got on really well.
It did not feel like a placement, I felt like I was a full time employee.
No official qualifacations avaliable but other team members always willing to help and explain new concepts.
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
It's a nice place to work - awesome team - great place to learn new skills.
The Culture
- Cognito Curry nights - Summer BBQ and christmas party - Nights out throughout the year in Reading / Newbury
Living in Reading (2011-2012) approx £350 pcm + bills for a houseshare. I lived with 2 other students working at Cognito. There is plenty to do in and around Reading.
Not much really goes on in Newbury but Reading has some good bars/clubs.
- Monday night football - Cognito run a scheme helping kids in local schools learn to code using Lego Mindstorms. Each week we would attend schools assisting the students program their robots.
