The Role
It was highly varied between really interesting work (which I didn't get very often) and admin based work.
I had to work weekends (which I was paid extra for) and felt like a valued member of the team
I wasn't given enough responsibility to be coached directly by a manager. I was given support in my admin based role by my team members.
Far too quiet! I am the kind of person that needs to keep busy, so I felt the work load was far too light, and not very challenging at all. It was a routine admin based job, with very little capacity for original thought or input.
My main duties were admin based, and I didn't have much responsibility.
I revcieved very little training at all. The office had a factory onsite, and I was meant to go down and be trained in Quality Control checks of fruit, however this promise was never fulfilled. The knowledge I gained there was quite specific, based around a computer system for deliveries etc, so the knowledge I learnt will be of little use to my degree programme. The one thing I really enjoyed was getting to go to the supermarket buyers head office and sit in on meetings there, which taught me a lot about the fresh produce industry.
The Company
It is a very small office, around 25 or so, and I felt there was generally quite a bad atmosphere with lots of critisisms and negativity. However, the team I worked with were upbeat and very friendly.
I have rated this badly as I did not recieve what I was told to expect to out of the placement. I was meant to be trained in the factory, and wasn't, I spent most of my time driving deliveries between offices and doing basic admin tasks which I was very disappointed by. The recruitment process was thorough and well funded, however there was very little work for a placement level student to carry out in the office. All of the work I undertook could have been done by someone at a school leaver level.
I was taken over to Berlin for an annual industry conference, which was a great experience. However, my role there was purely to make coffees and as admin support. I suggested that I attended industry conferences run by IGD, which the company had no objection to. However, when I was nominated for an 'Intern for a SME' award at the Rate My Placement awards, there was no organisation to have someone attend the awards ceremony with me, and as such it was all very last minute, and I felt very let down by MMUK.
International Travel
Personally, I would not consider a graduate role at MMUK as I feel that the job role I was offered was far too small and narrow for someone of a graduate level.
The Culture
I lived with my fellow placement student, as I already knew her from university. There wasn't much effort put into socialising, e.g. there weren't any welcome drinks.
Pretty cheap, Cambridge is close by for a night out and shopping.
Cambridge, about 30mins away had a good nightlife.
There was a christmas meal.
