The Role
Overall it has been amazing.......the one big worry when starting a job as an intern is that you are going to spend 8 hours a day photocopying but at SAP you are seen as a full time employee and are given big responsibilities. I have been involved in different areas of the business which I didn't expect but it has been great to have exposure to these.
My team literally feels like a family and it is going to be hard to leave. Everybody welcomes you with open arms and are always there to answer any questions, no matter how silly!
Your managers/supervisors give as much as they can to support you throughout the placement, I had regular 121 meetings with my manager whether it was face to face or on the phone and if he wasn't in there was always some one to go too for any advice, work etc.
My placement started off quite slow as I was the first intern to come into Presales, so it was quite quiet to begin with when I was trying to get a role together but as the months went by and employees became aware I was here to help my days got busier and busier. I have the odd couple of quiet days but that's expected.
I was responsible for a number of projects and things such as updating managers with reports. I would have liked a bit more but the responsibilities I did have were totally owned by me, meaning if anything went wrong it would be on my back.
The training has been great, you get the chance to take part in a lot of training courses from presentation skills to stress management. I have done a lot of courses for my presentation skills and have noticed a massive difference, which will prepare me for anything I have to present in my final year at university. I have also done a Finance refresher course which was great to get back up to scratch ready for my finance modules back at university. Also my general confidence has improved massively.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office is always buzzing, employees here are so passionate about SAP, it's hard not to get wrapped up in it. My department had quiet days where there was only a couple of people where I sit but working in Presales you have to expect that as they have to visit customers but when my team are in, it's great fun and it's a real work hard, play hard attitude.
This 50/50 because I can't say my set up for my role in Presales was perfect because there was no plan set in place, but I see this as a positive because I had to use my initiative to define the role myself. But overall the internship community and care is brilliant.
I received a lot of training and time from fellow employees to help me develop within Presales and I really appreciated the amount of time my team took out away from their daily tasks to help me with things, however it was sometimes hard when none of my team/managers were in.

There isn't a graduate programme set in stone but it is a work in progress. However, 2 previous interns have got a job at SAP after graduating due to keeping in contact with people from the company and proving there work when they were an intern. So it is a possibility and I would love to return.
The Culture
Altogether there were 17 other placement students at SAP when I was there so it is inevitable that there was going to be a social scene. We went out once or twice a month which doesn't sound that much but it's not ideal coming into work with a hangover but it was enough. I also lived with 3 other interns so we chilled in the evening, went to the gym, shopping etc so you never feel like you are on your own.
I lived just outside of London in a town called Egham which was very cheap to live, however it was quite expensive when you ventured out but you have to expect that living this close to London.
The nightlife was pretty poor in the area where I worked, the closest place is Windsor which is quite good but can get a bit boring so we went into central London quite a few times but it proved to be very expensive!!!!
Outside of work I went to the gym and went running a few times with my house mate but it's quite a shock to the system when you first start working ful time so going to the gym 2 or 3 times a week did me fne. But I'm sure if you have any hobbies there are local clubs you can get involved in.
