The Role
I really enjoyed my placement. I gained lots of useful experience which I can apply throughout the rest of my degree course.
From the start of the placement I was made to feel welcome, the other members of the department I worked in were friendly and helpfull.
Good support from the team I worked in aswell as support from various different people in different departments.
Varies from day to day, some days are busy others are quite slow. There are always other projects going on which I could help out with, all of which is great experience.
I was left to work alone at some points and then asked to present my findings before proceding with the next part of the project.
Many of the skills I have learnt from the placement will be very useful throughout the rest of my education and in life in general.
The Company
Very friendly atmosphere around the office, people were seemed happy to help and offered advice willingly.
The placement got off to a bit of a slow start due to problems with computers and other HR issues, but after this was resolved the whole thing seemed well organised.
No real training was required and so none was provided by the company other than health and safety information.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
National Travel
The placement is part of a scholarship scheme which i'm a part of, which means that at the end of university the company has the chance to offer me a job. As part of the scheme the company will pay back one third of my tution fees for university if I were to accept the job.
The Culture
Myself and the other students will often go to pub in the evenings for pub quizzes etc or just to chat. There is a facebook page for the graduates and placement students to organise things through.
Quite an expensive area to live and socialise in, the cost of pubs restaurants etc is quite high compared to that of a city.
Plenty of pubs and bars to visit, there is a small arts centre which has a cinema. Can be quite quiet during the week.
There are a few activities that i'm aware of such as the cycling and football events. I'm not sure how many other activities like these are available.
