The Role
Overall, a really enjoyable experience and very informative.
Felt really welcome from day one. Have been invited to a number of staff socials and they have treated me no different to any other colleague.
The work given was explained in some detail to give some context as most was fairly complicated/technical work. Help was always at hand and I never felt like I couldn't ask for help.
The trainees on the team gave me a variety of work on a regular basis. My supervisor would ensure that I always had something to do.
Some of the work carried out such as research was not essential to the imminent work of the team but was valued in that it provided them with background information or updates on particular matters. Due to the nature of some of the work, I understood that I could not do everything that a trainee would be expected to do.
I've learnt how to work and behave in a professional environment and more specifically how a team of solicitors work together on a a day to day basis. I've also learnt about the key documents and procedures in the practice areas that I sat in over the two weeks which gave me a realistic insight into what the solicitors actually do.
The Company
Everyone is very friendly and up for a laugh. At times when busy, the atmosphere would seem tense but that would be expected in any environment.
The structure and planning of the placement was very well thought out and made it clear what we would be doing over the course of the two weeks. The booklet was very helpful and the graduate recruitment team seemed very well organised.
There were a number of presentations, workshops and seminars which were made available for us specifically as well as the trainee events which were also welcome to attend.

I would not hesitate to accept a training contract, should it be offered. I feel like I really know what the firm is about and what they do specifically, which is appealing to me.
The Culture
We all tried to coordinate lunch which was nice and we went for drinks after work on a couple of nights. Everyone got on very well on the organised social events too.
The social events organised by CMS were fully subsidised which was very good. When we went on drinks outside of work, being central London, the expense was to be expected.
Drinks and bars are really nice. Havn't had a chance to properly explore the nightlife scene as such because of travel to and from the work placement.
There was opportunities to attend the sports clubs as well as other interesting seminars or debates for example on Diversity and Inclusion or CSR.
