The Role
I would recommend it to anyone interested in mathematical / financial / or actuarial persuits. Its a challenging placement, where the work was always interesting and your colleagues are very helpful and friendly.
I was a part of several client projects from an early stage, and was always being asked to participate in meetings and carrying out calculations and valuations.
I was always talked through each task by a member of the team, with step by step instructions that were often written down as well. It wasn't just being told what I had to do, but why - they were always patient and accessible for questions.
Pretty busy most of the time, I wasn't ever sat around twiddling my thumbs and usually had a couple of pieces of work on the go. I was never too overloaded ( or if I was they would reallocate the work ) and always got to go home on time.
Quite a lot, my work was integral to the client projects that were going out - luckily it was all checked by my superiors before it got sent off so I wasn't under pressure to get it 100% right first time.
I received a lot of practical skills with regards to various pieces of actuarial software that will be a great asset if I continue this as a career. I also learnt a lot about pensions which is good to know whatever field I end up in!
The Company
It was pretty focused on work, but they were fairly relaxed with when we wanted to take breaks or stop for chats, and we had some good socials on as well.
Very well organised. They were fully prepared for us coming, had stored up some work and assigned us to client teams (as well as giving us our own group project for HR) so we were never at a loss for things to do.
We were given extensive training and guidance, to the same level that a new graduate would receive. All our expenses were paid for, and we had several tutorials and examples to work through so we were always able to attempt each task confidently.

Company Parties/Events
I haven't heard if I will be receiving a job offer from them but I've heard the chances are very good provided I work hard and show enthusiasm.
The Culture
Everyone got on really well and was easy to talk to. The Bristol office was small (around 30 - 40 people) so it felt more like a large family than a workplace.
Not bad, I stayed in my student house. They paid for all of my travel expenses which was really great.
It's Bristol, so no complaints there.
There were several socials, dinners, poker nights, sports events, trips etc so definitely!
