The Role
I did enjoy the placement however the huge amount of responsibility and high expectations were evident from the start therefore if you are not prepared or are unable to adjust quickly it will be a struggle to enjoy yourself.
I was able to gain the respect of my colleagues despite my age and lack of experience.
My mentor offered me support and regular feedback.
The workload was always heavy and required strong organisational skills. There was never a moment when I felt bored.
I was given full management responsibility, both in store and out of store.
I have developed my organisational skills, the ability to problem solve quickly and to think on my feet. I have also developed a professional attitude and how to deal with pressure and criticism.
The Company
People were enthusiastic but there was a general atmosphere that people were overworked.
The structured plan was not followed and changes were made with quite short notice.
I have learnt a wealth of skills and a deep knowledge of the business.
Whilst they do not directly offer you a contract at the end of your placement, you have an exit interview with the managing director who will tell you if you have a future in the company or not.
The Culture
We were all located in different areas and therefore spent little time together.
Rent was expensive and I unfortunately had little spare time to socialise so I would not know!
I didn't have time to find out!
Unfortunately not.
