The Role
I had not expected to enjoy this placement as much as I did. I was kept busy and treated as part of the team. We were taken out for drinks regularly after work and invited on all kinds of nights out.
The whole team were fantastic, really friendy and helpful. They made sure we all got involved in different projects and felt like we were a valuable part of the group.
There is very little division between the partners, managers, graduatesa and interns. I had meetings and chats with several of the most senior members of the department as well as doing a partner shadow day. Managers and directors were also all very approachable and happy to explain anything.
The amount of work varies from time to time and sometimes you have to look for it. I was very busy for the first three weeks but less busy later as projects go through different stages. However, it is up to you to ask for work and everyone is always happy to know you are there if they need a hand. We were also given ongoing projects to do during downtimes.
I was given a reasonable amount considering I was working in a department I knew nothing about. I was in communication with several overseas teams on a daily basis and often left in charge of drafting reports before they went to managers.
Experience of an office environment and improving IT skills are two examples, as well as giving presentations, meeting deadlines and managing time. The list goes on...
The Company
Well to say we had champagne in the office 4 times in 5 weeks gives you an idea... everyone got on and went out after work together. A really good relaxed atmosphere, the office is open plan which encourages everybody to feel free to approach any other member of staff to ask a question or just for a chat.
EY have obviously been doing this a while and it was very well organised. The department knew we were coming well in advance and made sure we were kept busy. There were over 130 interns in the London office alone and there were severeal social events arranged for us all throughout. The induction weekend was also very well planned and good fun.
The company made clear from the beginning that they wanted us to enjoy our time so that we would want to come back the following year permanently. Therefore they make sure you understand everything, keep busy and have fun.

Company Parties/Events
All 3 interns who were in my department were offered placements and all of us are enthusiastic about accepting them.
The Culture
Between interns and department events we had options of attending several social events every week. Official internship events included a black tie event atr the end and all had free food/bar. Our department threw a leaving party for us in a nearby bar which was all paid for by the company as well.
I worked in central London so needless to say everything is expensive. There was a bar down the road which had cheao drinks until 8pm so that was popular. However, all events planned by EY were free with free drinks.
Central London there are pleanty of places to go. I worked in London Bridge where there are loads of bars to run to after work.
There were options of joining sports teams.
