The Role
Overall, a worthwhile experience and a very useful insight into the world of finance.
An amazing team, some great friends made and hopefully a cohort to be in touch with throughout our careers!
Very supportive/constructive guidance from supervisors, who often gave informal feedback and kept an eye out for us.
Ups and downs- some days too much work flooded in, others we had to find anything we possibly could. Overall, the intern is responsible for their own input and so it encouraged proactivity and enthusiasm.
Some tasks involved a high amount of responsibility but this was usually down to chance/having the right counsellor. Not all interns had the same experience when it came to this.
Very useful in terms of time and people management, as well as a useful insight into the worlds of finance and work in general. Allowed me to come to a number of conclusions about how I will approach my career.
The Company
Fun, open environment in the office- less so at client sites but this is to be expected.
Well-organisde in terms of structure, occasionally felt overlooked, but this was due to human error rather than organisational deficiencies
A lot of time and effort invested in explaining things that would have been done quicker by a graduate. Also my superiors hammered home the 'teach a man to fish' mentality, and made it very clear that they were happy to spend time going over things with me as it would help us all- made me feel valued.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Most interns get an offer, we find out in a few weeks but there is a high chance of internal hire, fingers crossed!
The Culture
Very well organised events led to a tight-knit group of interns. This in turn led to a number of unofficial socials and a great friendship group in general!
I was lucky to live rent-free, but the overall costs were as expected for London.
Good fun, but fairly corporate. Was keener to explore more of real London, so made an effort to do other things than just city bars, etc.
CSR day, many socials (bowling, meals, black tie event, etc), but most of the involvement in sports teams and charities comes when in a full-time post.
