The Role
I loved my insight in the County Solicitor's office of Devon County Council
The other girl on the placement and I were treated so well, we felt really valued and by the end of the week the other staff were like family.
We were given lots of support and guidance by management and were always free to ask questions etc.
Quite busy, we had a programme of events we could sit and watch and shadow people, so we got to see the full breadth of the Council's work, which was really good.
Not a huge amount as it was mainly shadowing that we did over the week, but we were given some high profile tasks, which were rewarding.
The placement will definitely be helpful to me in the future, and hopefully will look great on my CV to a prospective employer!
The Company
We had a very supportive, friendly and kind office
Very well organised - any changes to our schedule were communicated quickly and efficiently
A lot of time was spent explaining stuff to us and showing us round places and talking to people, which was really helpful, and made us feel really welcome
Definitely a possibility. I wasn't sure I wanted to work in local government before, but now I've seen how the legal team at DCC works, it's definitely a possibility.
The Culture
Yes, lots of stuff to do in Exeter - really good social scene
Good, Exeter is quite expensive but living costs and socialising were okay
Lots to do - theatre, clubs, pubs, bars, shopping
No there weren't.
