The Role
I wouldn't have chosen a different company if I had the chance again. You work in different areas of the company gaining experience in various areas of the business world.
My opinions and proposals on projects were always taken seriously by the Directors. The colleagues that I worked beside were great. Not once did I feel like I was the 'new guy' or in the way.
You are always able to contact your manager should you need any support and with regular updates you get to know where your strengths and weaknesses are.
Aldi are an organisation known to expect a lot from their colleagues but that as long as you are an organised person you will be fine. It is the same as every job, at times you can be unbelievably busy and constantly feel under pressure and then at times you can feel like everything is going smoothly.
The level of responsibility I recieved was huge. At times I was running the store and I also worked on projects, alone and in teams, that made a huge diffence to the company.
I am in no doubt that the vast amount of skills i have gained from a variety of different jobs will help me not just in my studies but also my future career.
The Company
The office has a great atmoshere and all the colleagues make you feel welcome. The Directors talk to you not down to you and there is always great morale. During your store time the morale is just as high with everyone working in a strong team environment.
It is a structured placement that exposes you to almost every part of the business. I worked in stores, logistics, property, trading, finance and store operations. I also worked on loads of projects that let me make my own decisions and manage my own work load.
You are always in contact with a manager who can give you feedback and help. The amount of training you recieve from day one is huge and you are always supported along the way.
Company Car
I would recommend to anyone interested in working within the retail industry that wants to be given a great amount of responsibilty to go for it.
The Culture
I was the only placement student in my region this year but with the other colleagues I had a great relationship with them.
They aimed to base me close to where I lived so I have very little differnce in living costs.
As I was from the area all my friends were close by to enjoy a good night out.
There are few company organised activities but you can always organise things with your fellow colleagues.
