The Role
I had a great time and found the work stimulating. Overall, a great place to start your career.
There was a great atmosphere in the office and I felt like just another member of the team.
My mentor was always there to answer my questions and help me out. There could have been some more structured training, but learning on the job by asking questions was challenging and rewarding.
I was fairly busy throughout the 6 weeks. I usually had to work slightly longer hours than those stated in the contract, but didn't have to stay too late or get in ridiculously early.
I was only really responsible for the work I was given. The tasks I was given were fairly flexible, so I was still making active decisions on many aspects of the project.
Although there wasn't much formal training, I learnt a lot about various software packages which will be essential tools that I'll use in future work. Being in an open plan office means you overhear a lot of conversations about other projects, so I've definitely got a better idea of the type of work actuaries do now.
The Company
Really good atmosphere, everyone was very welcome. You never felt pressured to just get on with work without bothering other people.
The central training days were excellent, but the organisation within the office could have been better. I think this was mainly down to the fact I was working in a recently acquired part of the business.
My mentor put in a fair amount of time answering my questions, but there seemed to be a lack of specific training. The group project really helped me develop communication and teamwork skills.

Really enjoyed working here and can see myself fitting in, so hopefully I'll get a Graduate offer!
The Culture
The six of us in the office got on really well. We always went to lunch as a group and a had a few good nights in the pub.
Not as expensive as I expected. The accomodation allowance on top of your salary helps a lot though
Fairly quiet, as you'd expect for a reasonably small town, but that didn't really bother me. London's not far away though if you want something a bit more lively.
Loads. Volunteering days, a baking competition, lunchtime football and badminton, curry nights and even a rounders tournament!
