The Role
I enjoyed the people, the location and the work I was given. I was challenged in so many different ways but there were always opportunities to have some fun as well.
For colleagues within my department I found them to be very friendly and helpful whenever I spoke to them. They gave me real jobs and that made me feel very valued. Not only this but my fellow interns were also the perfect mixture of competent and friendly.
I was supported and guided in great detail at the beginning of each task. However there was also a great importance placed on independent working which meant that I had to learn fast and implement lessons quickly.
Everyday I found myself kept busy either by department-specific work or events that were organised by the intern-organisers designed to teach us about the different features that a leader should have.
For a firm the size of Barclays I didn't expect to be given a large amount of responsibility, nonetheless I was given as much responsibility as I was capable of dealing with. The internship has given me the drive to improve my ability now so that I can better deal with the greater responsibility that advancement brings.
I currently study Economics and the patterns that are sought and models that are made within Credit Risk were a great match for a mind like mine. I was able to learn about the differences between data analysis in reality and academia and that, along with many other work-based lessons, will put me in good stead for the future.
The Company
The atmosphere was very professional but at the same time very relaxed. There were no fixed times to come and go from the office, people were often able to work from home and every couple of days one of the members of my desk was off to South Africa, France or somewhere else in the world. It was exactly what I had hoped it would be like.
The internship organisers were some of the most well-organised people I have ever seen work. They were able to mix the professional aspects of working with the much more personal ones. The professional aspects involved ensuring we were working with the right people and the personal aspects involved holding seminars and events that helped us to think about ourselves more.
I was able to travel around the UK for my placement, but one intern was able to go to Madrid, Lisbon and Paris. Bearing in mind we are only interns either still in or just out of university that kind of investment can't be exceeded.

Barclays RBB are an innovative force in banking. They have at their heart the ambition to make customers lives easier which, to me, is what will ensure future employment with them is a valuable thing.
The Culture
There were always nights out and I loved spending time with the people
The cost of living and socialising in London is always going to be pretty high but due to the organised events and the amazing canteen in Barclays this was a lot easier to handle than I thought it would be.
London's Nightlife is and always has been awesome.
The internship events were the most obvious example of this. To give a good example there was a community day where we spent a day painting a shelter. There were also opportunities that came from working together in group projects as we met up outside of work to socialise and work together.
