The Role
The internship was a very good balance of work and fun. Both the departments I worked with were very welcoming and friendly. I would rate this internship as the best I have had till date.
In the three weeks I worked at Herbert Smith, I had the opportunity to work on a new client instruction from an overseas client, and also to prepare a pitch for a prospective client. There was no restriction on the work I could involve myself in. I was definitely made a part of the actual work of the firm.
My supervisors gave me insights into their work, and also guided me along in the work I did for them. The level of supervision and guidance was very encouraging.
I prepared five research notes during the course of my internship, which kept me busy throught the day on most days. There was always sufficient time to attend the presentations and social events through the day.
I had a fairly high level of responsibility during the scheme, more than a temporary intern would usually expect.
The workshop on development of negotiation skills was particularly interesting. The seminars were informative as well.
The Company
The work environment was very cordial.
A very well-planned balance between social events and desk work.
Personal training was mainly in the form of multiple workshops. Most of these workshops were based on an explanation of various legal disciplines pursuded in the firm.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
A very positive yes.
The Culture
Yes. As an example, many groups of employees planned to watch the Olympics together. All Vacation Students would often meet after work for drinks and dinner.
Rental costs are very high in Central London. Bars and restaurants however are not very expensive.
Primrose Street is a business area in London.
Cricket matches, football matches and legal advice.
