The Role
I enjoyed scheme a lot - I attended lots of internal and client meetings, which included audit committee meeting, internal restructuring meetings, projects allocation meeting as well as some informal catch ups. It allowed me to see the wide range of activities and issues that arised within company at a time.
All people in the office were very helpful, welcoming and enthusiastic about me shadowing them (even if that was not their responsibility). They tried to get me involved in daily office life and eagerly showed me their work and current projects.
My partner, as well as other people attending the meetings, were always very supportive. Each time before meeting started someone was making me a briefing of the topic and discussed issues and usually there was also a copy of documents for me, so that I can understand meeting better. When some difficult terms or shortcuts were used in conversation, my partner always took a moment to explain them to me.I was also welcome to ask questions.
My partner made sure that I was not bored and always had something to do. When she hadn't any meetings scheduled herself, she arranged for me to shadow someone else in the office or organised for me meetings with junior employees to tell me about role I would have during first year of work at PwC, with Human Capital to make me familiar with how performance is reviewed at PwC and with former intern to tell me more about internship. Overall, I was very well taken care of.
Not applicable, as I haven't been doing any work.
From watching many discussions of senior people at PwC I learned a lot about cooperation, communication and effective teamwork, as they were really experienced and good at it.
The Company
Atmosphere in the office was great - all people were really welcoming and helpful, which created the feeling of informality, but at the same time everyone was professional. I felt really good among them from the very first day and after a week I felt as a part of the team.
It depended a lot on initiative of a partner and mine was fantastic. I had meetings all day - my partner made sure that they cover various topics, so that I can see both internal issues arising withtin organisation, as well as, client meetings. In this way I was never bored. Everything went smoothly regarding organisation issues.
Not applicable, as I was there for a week only and was not doing any work and hence any training.
Great. Last day of scheme during feedback conversation with my partner I was informed that I am given an offer of internship for next summer.
The Culture
There weren't any fellow placement students - I was the only one on a scheme in the office at a time
Cheap for me, as I was doing scheme in the same city that I study and live in.
The office was located in the city centre of Edinburgh, so there were lots of clubs, restaurants and pubs nearby.
Not applicable. I wasn't working in the first place.
