The Role
It was overall a good internship, interesting work and a great team to work with.
Colleagues appreciated the work that was done for them and were generally very friendly.
Sometimes things would be quite busy and people weren't able to thoroughly the background to the work that was being done but when people had the time they were happy to answer questions and ensure that I knew exactly what needed to be done as well as why it was being done.
Occasional periods of downtime with no work to do - despite being assigned a HR internship project to work on and another small personal project from the team.
People delegated what they could and once or twice I was given client work to do and free reign of how to approach the task and how to present it but due to the technical nature of the work there were limitations to how much responsibility could be passed on.
Gained some useful technical knowledge which may not prove to be very useful in my degree studies but should I decide to pursue a career at the firm will come in handy for the study programme there.
The Company
Had a good laugh with the other people in the office - they were very welcoming and down to earth colleagues and were a lot of fun to work with.
There were several centralised events involving people across all regions which were generally well organised, and in my office there were a few things organised to let me see a little of what other teams do.
Had a few training sessions and lunchtime learning sessions but no significant investment (which is understandable for interns, whereas the firm invests a lot into the training and development of graduates)
Subsidised Canteen
Its a good place to launch a career and they will support you well through your further studies e.g. actuarial or CFA qualifications.
The Culture
Few events organised by the firm but the social scene is what you make of it and we often had drinks with the other interns or with the team after work.
Central London is expensive but is unavoidable with the majority of opportunities in financial services.
Mainly just pubs nearby but its not far from West End etc. if you want to go out.
No activities organised by the firm.
