The Role
The work was interesting and diverse. I got to see lots of different clients and see all the main aspects of an audit. The variety of work added to my enjoyment of my internship.
Every one made an effort to get to know me and were really friendly when I asked for help with the work that they had set me. I never felt like I was bothering some one and they all made time to guide me. I was rewarded for my effort through their values award scheme which made me feel valued.
Every one took the time to coach me on the team no matter what their level was. If I was ever stuck on the work that they had set me they were more than happy to repeat if necessary the instructions given to me or offer more clarity on any issues that I had encountered.
I had a constant work load as I was pro-active in looking for work from my team. They always had something for me to do and I got some sya in the tasks I got to do which was amazing as it allowed me to work on areas that I had never seen before.
Right from day one I had interactions with the client and discussing issues that the team had with them. I'm happy that the team I was with felt that they could trust me to convey a professional image and enquire about all the necessary points that they had previously discussed with me.
I plan to take a graduate job with the company if it is offered to me in audit and these 6 weeks have given me a good grounding of what to expect from their graduate scheme. They will allow me to build on the skills I have learnt which will hopefully ease me in at the start of the graduate scheme.
The Company
Every one was friendly and when the team member who was setting me tasks were away from their desk it was easy enough to ask someone else in the office for advice or help with the work that I had been set. I met lots of new people and it was a very sociable atmosphere.
Everything had been sorted for the group of 10 interns with train tickets booked for us to some of the events that we could attend. They had told us in advance if we needed to travel to a client site and helped us in finding a suitable means of transport to the site, whether finding train times or arranging car shares.
They spent a day at the start where they improved our team work skills through lots of group events. Whilst at the itnernship they actively encouraged us to undertake web based learning in lots of different areas so that we could improve in areas that we were interested in.
Company Parties/Events
I would definitely accept a graduate job from Ernst and Young in audit. The impression I have recieved of the company whilst on my internship has really sold it to me. They also have an amazing grad scheme with benefits such as interest free loans available allowing me to buy a car after university.
The Culture
We usually met up twice and week for either meals, drinks or a night out. Every one was friendly and wanted to get involved. Socialising was encouraged from the start on our weekend induction where there were lots of opportunites to meet new people.
Bristol is fairly cheap for a night out, it has numerous clus and bars to choose from as well. I lived in Bath in my student house which I already ahd to pay for over the summer so I didn't lose out for living there over the summer. I was also paid for my summer internship so this went a long way to helping my finances over the period.
The nightlife in Bristol has so much to offer no matter what you want from a night out. There are lots of bars, clubs and gigs going on in Bristol at a variety of venues. It's a friendly atmosphere in town in the evenings too which was great.
There were lots of social events such as the summer party which all the interns were invited too. Also every week there are circuits in town run my a member of staff which some of the interns attended. Whilst on my internship I was also invited to lots of events usch as office meals out or tickets to go and see shows.
