The Role
The work was quite varied and interesting which I particularly enjoyed.
There were strong ties between team members - the working culture was relatively relaxed and friendly for a big corporate firm.
I had a 'buddy' who was a trainee or 'level 1' and a 'counsellor' who discussed my progress with me every couple of weeks.
There were some days when things were very slowin the office but this cannot be helped in this sector as summer is traditionally a quiet season.
I was given many tasks to complete by myself but everything got reviewed before being sent to clients.
I learnt a lot about how my personality affects my approach to tasks and what I enjoy doing as well as which learning methods are most effective for me.
The Company
The atmosphere was never tense and people got on really well, whether they were partners or just starting out.
Fairly organised - admin went smoothly, we were given technical help and if there was ever a problem, there was always someone relevant we could speak to.
I was surprised at how well looked after I was throughout the whole process, from the initial application stage right up until the closing event. As well as this, at work we were treated as graduate recruits; for example we had to complete the same online training as them.

I am currently waiting to see whether I will be offered a job as a graduate - EY is aiming for a 90% retention rate of interns recruited during the summer placements.
The Culture
We often ate together at lunchtime, went for drinks after work and organised meals out. I certainly hope to keep in touch with them all!
As I did my placement in my university town, I didn't have to worry about rent as it was what I would have paid anyway had I not been there for the internship. Leeds is not too expensive compared to other cities and I didn't feel as though I had any money worries.
As it was summer, it was low-season for going out. Otherwise the nightlife is incredible.
We organised socials within our department and between us interns. There were regular invitations to join in with sports teams and interest clubs e.g. Women's Network. However these were often based in London so I could not attend.
