The Role
I thought it was a fantastic insight into what life is a busy trainee would be like, which is exactly what you would want out of a vacation scheme.
I was made to feel like part of the team from the very beginning. Lots of different people got me involved real work for the department. On my first day I was taken along to a client meeting and was given a chance to put my opinions and thoughts forward.
I think this can depend on what department you are in, but I had fantastic support. Both my buddy and supervisor were always there to offer support and answer questions if needed. The buddy system is something really quite unique about Nabarro. Not many law firms offer quite as much support and advice early on. They really help you to settle in.
Very busy but never overwhelmed. I think this partly depends on which department you are in. I was in Property, which is normally pretty busy. I found myself juggling quite a few tasks at one time, but the deadlines set were never unreasonable. To be honest there was no excuse not to be busy! There was always Project Nabarro to work on if you are stuck for work!
As much as I would expect. For example, some of the documents I drafted were completely new to me, so there was always someone there to check it through. Having said that, once I had done a particular task a few times, I was given more and more responsibility to get on with it. For example, I was shown how to do an insolvency search early on in the scheme and following that, the results I produced on searches later on in the scheme were relied on.
I am definitely a better lawyer than I was when I started! Many of the tasks I was given are what I can expect to do as a trainee. The Westlaw and Lexis training was also really useful. I wish I had known those techniques during my degree!
The Company
It was good! Even though the department was busy, people would always stop to say hello and ask how I was doing. A few people even came down to support me when I was taking part in the office olympics!
Hats off to HR! Very well organised and structured! A lot of time and effort has clearly gone into organising the vacation scheme to give students the best experience possible.
A lot! We were given a comprehensive induction at the beginning of the scheme. We had a mid-placement meeting to see how we were getting on and at the end of the scheme my supervisor took me out for lunch to go through the things that I had learnt on the scheme. You are treated like a potential future trainee of the firm.

Company Parties/Events
I think it is about a 50/50 chance. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
The Culture
It was good! There were plenty of social events organised by the firm but we organised a few things of our own as well.
Normal prices for London. It's definitely not cheap!
Pretty good. Some good local pubs and if you could venture out further if you wanted.
There were some social events organised which we could get involved in. It is possible to get involved in the sports teams as a trainee but that wasn't open to us. I don't know if we'd have had the time though to be honest!
