The Role
I mainly enjoyed my internship due to the nice atmosphere and friendly people in the office. The atmosphere among the interns was very friendly and I enjoyed the many get-togethers we had.
Very nice colleagues although I felt that I was more of a chore than help to them
Very helpful manager and we had regular catch-ups. However, I was pretty much left alone when it came to finding something to do.
After I finished my project in week 4 I really struggled to find anything to do. This was worsened by the lack of priviliges I was given on the IT system to the extend that I was usually not able to complete the given task.
As mentioned before the lack of IT privileges meant that I could only do very minor and usually meaningless jobs. Apart from that everything was pretty much left to myself and it was my responsibility to find some work.
I received an insight into commercial banking, however, my tasks were usually very repetitive and limited so that I did not get to learn a huge amount. Definitely useful though if I continue to work for HSBC in a graduate role.
The Company
People were quite busy but always up for a laugh.
The IT department is a nightmare. It took me 2 weeks to get my email and Microsoft office running and I spent about 5 hours overall on the phone to the IT helpdesk. Apart from that there is nothing to complain about.
We had a 2 day induction and a 2 day engagement day, which was good fun. We also received guidelines on what we should achieve and do during our internship, which was very helpful. Overall, I had the feeling that HSBC tried pretty hard to impress us and invest in us.
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Very appealing graduate programmes and from what I heard from other interns and grauates chances to get a job after the internship are very high.
The Culture
We had 3 events during our internships in which all interns got together and it was always good fun. In the office it could have been a bit more social but colleagues were nice and we went to the pub every Friday.
Well, what do you expect in London?
London?!
We were encouraged to join the alumni team in order to stay in touch even after we finished the internship. There were numerous charity events we were able to take part in and regular evenings out organised by graduates and interns.
