The Role
An internship at HSBC is a brilliant opportunity to experience the Banking industry after your first year at university.
If the question was about within HSBC as a whole interns would be considered the future of the bank and were treated as so, however within the branch I was working often my role was forgotten or miss interpreted.
The Emerging Talent team at HSBC are second to none, they make sure you're fitting in, they design a completely interactive and informative programme which gives a great insight into life inside HSBC
It is a working placement, but it is very much what you make of it, you have to control your own diary, and be proactive with regards to setting up meetings and shadowing, otherwise the internship could pass you by.
You are an established member of staff, after completion of your training your responsibilities increase, and as above it is very much upon you to make your internship.
The internship has developed my confidence and has also expanded my contact network within the bank. It develops the application of a combination common sense and training to create a more rounded knowledge of the banking industry
The Company
In a branch it is not as easy other locations to constantly be having fun, however HSBC Live radio is always playing and people always have a smile on their face.
The Emerging talent team were faultless, from application to the end of the internship.
There were numerous off site days with the bank, where travel expenses where all covered, also with regular projects and tasks, there was always chance for feedback and development.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
The bank looks to hire internally and the prospects of further internships and graduate jobs look very good (Hopefully)
The Culture
The intern community were actively incouraged to work together on chairty work or when socialising, this created a great happy network of people, who enjoyed working and socialising
I lived at home for the internship
Fairly standard nightlife for a large town, with big cities near by.
I was a;llways receiving emails about charity work or social events that were going on across the country.
