The Role
Absolutely loved the 3 week internship at the firm. It helped me to get a real insight in to firm and the type of work that I could potentially be involved with in the future. Everyone at the firm was extremely friendly and it was really good fun, particularly with all the social events that were organised by the firm.
Really valued, all the people in the departments were really welcoming and made an active effort to make us feel comfortable.
On the scheme you are provided with a 'buddy' and a 'supervisor' in each department, as well as ongoing support from HR. If ever I had any questions, I felt very supported to ask any questions.
We were occupied the majority of the time. The really good thing about the placement at Baker & McKenzie was that they try and get you involved with real work. As well as this though they give you a number of talks and sessions to improve your knowledge of the various departments and also a chance to network with other staff. I always had something to do and if not we were encouraged to go and ask around for work.
A great deal of responsibility, often helping with trainee level work which gave you a real insight into the type of work that you will be doing. Obviously as a non-qualified person there is a limited to the work you can do but they actively encouraged us to take as much responsibility as we could manage.
It provided a real and accurate picture of what it would be like to work as a lawyer at the firm. As well as this it provided a broader knowledge of law in general, important skills such as presentation skills and also a number of really useful contacts which will be really useful for the future.
The Company
Really friendly and welcoming, I never met anyone that I disliked. The atmosphere does vary from department to department.
The Graduate Recruitment team were EXCELLENT. They made the whole experience really comfortable and enjoyable.
A number of skill sessions which were really useful.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
A fair number of people will get offered a Training Contract, we will find out 1st September.
The Culture
Organised events by the firm but a really good bunch of people so we organised a number of social events ourself.
Expensive but this will be the case anywhere in London. The weekly payment ensured we had more than enough to cover ourselves.
Good, a number of nice bars and clubs.
It was a 3 week placement but there was opportunities to get involved in sport and various CSR initiatives.
