The Role
Working at the Grant Thornton Liverpool office was a really enjoyable 6 weeks. All of the staff were so friendly and helpful and were happy to spend time training me and answering any questions I had. We also spent 2 days down at Bradenham doing training with interns from other offices from other regions. These were a great 2 days which were both fun and useful for our progression in the internship.
I was given lots of responsibility from day one and never felt like an intern. I was treated just the same as all the graduates and school leavers who had been working there much longer than me and constantly felt part of the team.
My line manager was really helpful and took lots of time out of his busy schedule to have regular meetings with me. We set objectives at the start of my internship and met a couple of times during it to check I was achieving them. He really helped my progress at Grant Thornton and was a great support throughout.
Generally I was always kept busy. Staff tried their best to continually find work for me, only on very rare occassions did I find I didnt have much to do and it never lasted longer than 30 minutes.

The skills I have gained from my internship will assist me when I start as a graduate as I will understand the basics of an audit before I arrive in September. This will benefit me greatly when I am busy studying for ACA exams alongside doing my job as I wont be overfaced with everything being new to me.
The Company
As auditors spend so much time at clients the office was rarely busy in our area. However, when I did spend time with staff in the office it was a very relaxed atmosphere where you are free to chat alongside doing your work.
Very structured programme which included an induction day, then out and 4 different clients over the 6 weeks allowing me to experience a variety of different audit jobs, a CSR day where we went to Birmingham to re-decorate a schools playground, 2 days training at Bradenham with a 2 night stay there and a day of partner shadowing. This meant that I was never bored and always had something to look forward to.
The firm invested alot in us interns un terms of personal training and developement. My line manager met with me regularly for large amounts of time to see how I was doing and help me progress, the 2 days and nights we spent at Bradenham were brilliant training and on the audit jobs my team were constantly happy the take the time out to teach me.
I've got a job offer for when I finish University based on me achieving a 2:1 or above.
The Culture
Lots of opportunities to socialise, meal and drinks nights were organised regularly with the office and the other interns. There was a football weekend held in Manchester for all the Grant Thornton offices to compete in which included a night out there and accomodation. On my partner shadowing day the partner took me out for lunch along with the rest of the team, I was also invited to a clients charity ball which included a 3 course meal and drinks all night. It was great to mix with all of the interns from other regions on the CSR day and our 2 days at Bradenham. Overall, a great social scene with both my colleagues and other interns.
Lived at home but socialising was fairly good prices.
Spend nights out in both Liverpool and Manchester due to it being a joint North West office, both have a great nightlife!
Lots of opportunities! see above.
