The Role
I enjoyed my placement immensely given that it offered me new and challenging experiences to sink my teeth into
I was treated respectfully and kindly by managers. They always tried to ensure that I did not stay too late and was able to secure a safe means of transport home especially due to the disruption caused by the Olympics
Whenever I had questions I felt comfortable enough to ask someone and people were happy to volunteer information about the department without me even having to ask.
I was very busy on a daily basis due to the team I joined having just won a project. This meant that I was well utilised and that there were rarely ever moments when I had nothing to do.
I was given quite a sizeable about of responsibility in spite of the fact that I had just joined this department. This was hugely encouraging and showed that the team trusted me to support them on major deadlines
The experiences I have had tie in perfectly with my course, Economics and Management. A lot of what I have been doing will inform the approach I take to certain modules within my course and increase my understanding of the real life implications of what I am studying
The Company
There was a really genial and affable atmosphere in the office, with people asking others how they were and stopping to catch up with people. However, when it was time to get down to the work, people did take that seriously and focus on the task at hand
The very nature of the department meant that it was hard to predict where exactly I would be needed most and therefore we played it by ear in terms of where I was based at different times. However, this actually enhanced my experience of the department and gave me an indication of what life is really like in this department
The firm spends an incredibly amount on its interns and invests a lot in them both in terms of training and the pay that we are given each month. This scheme is very generous which then motivates me and others to work harder to impress the company
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
International Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
The future prospects within the firm are excellent especially if you have been on the scheme that I have been on. If you return to the firm, you are likely to be put up for early promotion and the work experience you have already done contributes to professional qualifications one may want in the future
The Culture
There were so many activities available for me to take part in: during my time I got to go on a client networking event that involved racing around on soapy inflatables; after work drinks and general celebrations within the department. There is even a department ski trip!
London is very expensive to socialise given the price of transport and drinks however the partners at the company were incredibly generous and often offered to cover the cost of food and drinks.
London night life is simply brilliant - the sheer variety of venues to go to are staggering. If you have the time and funds, London can be one of the best places to spend a night out.
There are an array of extra curricular activities for people to get involved with: from Deloitte Choir to Deloitte Football, there is something for everyone. Deloitte also encourages people to get involved in charity projects and supports them while they do this.
