The Role
My internship with Barclays was fantastic. I learnt a lot about Finance and the challenges that Barclays face on a day to day basis. I really feel I developed as a professional during my internship.
I became good friends with many of my colleagues and they really welcomed me into the team. They praised me at the end of my internship and gave me the confidence I needed to believe that I could make it in Finance.
Although my manager was great when I got to see him, he was also a very busy person and therefore it could sometimes be quite difficult to meet up with and discuss my progress and work that I had completed.
I actually feel I had enough work to do, there was always something that needed to be done in my office whether that was a big thing or a smaller thing.
I was trusted to complete tasks on my own and set myself goals and achievable timescales so that employees could use the work that I was doing. In general the work was quite fast paced so although my work was checked collegues did trust my ability to complete work.
For my degree the knowledge of finance I gained wasn't much use in my modules, however it did prove useful for a product design module I did in my third year. However the skills I have learnt through developing as a professional are invaluable and will help me to be a strong employee in the future.
The Company
I worked with some great people whom made the office environment very relaxed. Although there were stressful days , people always made you feel welcome and part of the team.
I had no problems during my placement including finding accomodation.
I believe Barclays invest in their students through providing a well structured, supportive scheme in which an individual is exposed to numerous situations within the business. The time Barclays employees spent teaching me new skills was fantastic.

I would love to work for Barclays again as they are a brilliant company to work for, I have decided to take a gap year at the moment so will apply for a graduate scheme with them this September.
The Culture
They was a brilliant social scene. Myself and other interns lived together and did numerous activities like going down the pub, playing pool, going to watch live music etc.
I stayed in Northampton which is a really cheap area to live in. My rent was almost half that of what I pay at university.
Northampton is okay for a night out. There are a few decent bars and clubs. Its not like you cities but I believe if you have the right crowd to go out with it doesnt really matter who you go out with.
There were a few sports teams such as football teams to get involved with. I did not hear of anything else.
