The Role
An intense three weeks, with a social event on nearly every night (either as an official part of the scheme or an unofficial department-related event), balanced with a good amount of work and responsibility.
There was the standard amount of trickle-down work like photocopying etc., but if you put in the effort to ask for work and show that you can handle it, people are very willing to give it to you.
Everyone from trainee to partner is very willing to take the time to help/teach you anything you don't know.
I was kept fairly busy with departmental work, but when work in the department was slow, Project Nabarro kept me on my toes!
A good level of responsibility, including giving weekly department-wide presentations.
Definitely helped as an excellent insight into and motivation for a career in a City firm.
The Company
Very friendly - genuinely an open-door policy.
Kudos to the Grad Rec team - the placement was very well organised, not just in terms of the timetable/schedule, but also the fact that everyone in the office seemed to know who we were and made an effort to make us feel welcome.
Good induction and IT training for the first two days of the scheme, coupled with insightful breakfast presentations which gave us a good overview of the sort of work Nabarro does and how it fits into the rest of the legal industry. Also excellent opportunity to ask questions.
Company Parties/Events
Good quality work, coupled with an excellent office atmosphere and good work/life balance (seat-dependent).
The Culture
We got along very well and hung out every Friday night and are still in touch after!
Central London - pretty expensive generally, but cheaper alternatives can be found with a student card.
Pretty good, the office is near Leicester Square/Soho with good night scenes. Camden is also only a bus ride away.
Opportunities include involvement with pro bono work (on request) and also firmwide social events that were not specifically for the vac scheme e.g. a Contact Nabarro event organised by trainees - these were excellent in letting us get to know the firm better.
