The Role
It was great to experience a bank environment, especially one which is experiencing problems. There is something of a motivated atmosphere to progress and get things right.
I felt part of the team after about a week and I do feel they value the help I have provided during my placement.
My manager was great. Always happy to help and gave good support and guidance throughout. Positive feedback was also a bonus.
Some days the hours would fly by and I would be getting stuck in and other days I would still have work to do but the work wouldn't feel so forceful. e.g. charity preparation, project work.
I was given responsibility from my first week. Carrying out tasks independently and learning more and more as I progressed.
I have developed much needed excel based skills which will always be beneficuial in a finance role. The experience with the bank is also fantastic for my CV going forward.
The Company
Joining during a busy period with Half year reporting going on, my office was always fairly busy and everyone was kept quiet because of everything that had to be done. However, there was always a little time for conversation in between tasks which was good.
I can't really fault the set up. Trips to London for induction and the remaining weeks in the office were all like clockwork.
I would have one to one's with some of the employees to try and improve some of my skills and learn more about the Group. Both my manager and members of the team were happy to help. I also attended training in London for the induction.

Still awaiting a hiring decision. RBS are still going through a rough patch so it is hard to determine whether the graduate scheme is a good place to start, as redundancies seem to be happening a lot due to restructuring. Nevertheless, it does appeal to me due to the wide experience in rotations and the opportunities for placements in London
The Culture
The social scene was reasonable. We all stayed in different places so it was sometimes hard to organise where we could go.
Reasonable. Edinburgh is probably just as expensive as London.
Edinburgh festival was on.
Some drinks organised. Were informed of a golf tournament at the induction which never materialised.
