The Role
It wasn't like other internships where you are given odd tasks that needed doing rather than focusing on the learning experience. The tasks that were given to me were thought out which required me to do my own research, make decisions and plan my own time. I was also introduced to different members of the team who I could approach if I have any difficulties.
As my placement was only 10 weeks I was unable to work on tasks with colleagues in the development team. However the team very friendly and could be approached for general advice or task specific.
I was allocated a buddy for general advice. A senior developer who set me tasks and could be approached at any time. I also had a weekend meeting with my manager about my progress and feedback.
I was given multiple tasks, which were up to me complete in my given time frame. So I was never bored and never too busy as it was up to me how much I got through each day.
I was given a number of tasks to do which is completed would genuinely benefit the business. I was responsible for managing my own time, and seeing the right people to carry out different tasks.
The initial markets and products training was amazing. The speakers were obviously very experienced and made it entertaining. The main benefit from this was getting the background knowledge on Investment Banking and the different areas. We were given Excel training, which didn't benefit the work role but it will definitely help in degree tasks and future.
The Company
The atmosphere was generally quiet productive working environment. Majority of people seemed very happy.
Everything was organised well. Was regularly updated about internship events via email and outlook calendars.
3.5 days in the first week in training on Markets and Products and Excel Training. Regular IT Presentations on what was going on in this business area within the company. Weekly reviews with my manager. Colleagues invested alot of time explaining tasks and processes which helped me carry out my tasks.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
If I get an offer I will definatley be accepting it.
The Culture
We were introduced to all the other interns in the first few days and allowed plenty of time to meet each other. This allowed us to get to know each other and keep in touch over the internship and meet regularly for after work drinks or lunches.
Being London most things were expensive, but this shouldn't put anyone off at all. The salary more than makes up for these costs.
London, so there is something for everyone.
There was involvement with local charities. And other technology focussed tasks which people of the right skill-set could get involved in.
