The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, it gave me the insight I needed into a career as an actuary and I am now hoping to pursue a career in this area and I most definetly want to return to Mercer if I have the opportunity!
My colleagues at the Leeds office have been a pleasure to work with. They have made me feel like a valued member of the team and have made this such a great experience.
Everyone in the team always seemed happy to help, especially my buddies.
For the majority of my internship I was busy, but there were a few occasions when I was low on work. However a quick email and the regular offer of help ensured I was never bored!
I feel like I have been given alot more responsibility than I had initially expected, as I was doing calculations and working on many schemes almost immediately and thoroughout my internship which I appreciated as this helped me gain a better insight into the profession.
I have learnt alot of skills during this internship whether it be general excel skills, work skills or related directly to the profession. I have also learnt alot about pensions and the actuarial profession which will help me in some of the modules I have selected for my final year.
The Company
The atmosphere was very friendly, everyone was easy to talk to and approachable.
My internship was quite last minute but as soon as I arrived for my first day at the office everything was sorted and ready for me.
I felt like I had the opportunity to participate in a variety of tasks and gain many skills.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
I hope they are great as I would love an opportunity to work with Mercer in the future, but as of yet I do not know.
The Culture
There were many occasions where the other graduates and colleagues invited me along to drinks or lunch, which was great and made me feel like a part of the team as well as a friend!
The cost isnt too expensive but I travelled on the train everyday.
The nightlife was great, I had only been to Leeds once before and it didnt let me down.
There were many opportunities, lunch, drinks and even general days out.
