The Role
Everyone in the office was really friendly and made working here a really enjoyable experience. The work was interesting and my understanding of Actuarial work definitely grew as the internship went on.
I think they were grateful to have interns to help out with small pieces of work over the Summer. They were all extremely friendly and did their best to make sure I settled in ok.
My team were always willing to explain things to me or answer any questions I had. My supervisor frequently checked up on me to make sure that I was getting on ok and was happy to sit and go through any work I didn't understand.
I definitely had a few quiet days but unfortunately that was just because there wasn't anything available that I had the knowledge or understanding to work on. However the quieter days gave me a chance to work on my group project.
I was definitely given more responsibility as I gained more experience of the work I was doing and by the end of my internship I was involved with pieces of work from start to finish, including sending the results back to admin.
Learning how to use excel was really helpful, as was working in an office environment for the first time.
The Company
Everyone was really friendly and happy to stop for a chat to find out how you were getting on. The office always acknowledged people's achievements such as passing exams which I thought was really considerate.
It was very well organised although the induction day felt quite rushed with all the things we had to learn!
They spoke to us a lot about the process of gaining an actuarial qualification and what the Actuarial exams are like.
Company Parties/Events
Would definitely like the opportunity of working with Mercer again in the future.
The Culture
There was only one other intern but we got on well and would chat about how we were getting on and sometimes have lunch together.
The office is literally in the centre of town and so there are hundreds of places to go for coffee, lunch or drinks nearby!
I'm from Glasgow though so might be biased!
Was invited to a cocktail making class which was provided by Mercer! There were also a few e-mail invites to take part in activities at weekends like charity days etc.
