The Role
Very enjoyable, social aspects were good and was given a variety of intersting tasks.
Received a 'values award' for my work for the firm. Was made to feel welcome and involved with the team immediately.
You are assigned a 'buddy' and a 'counsellor'. Buddies are level ones which provide more informal advice and are responsible for ensuring that your workload is sufficient. Counsellors provide a much more formal role; setting targets, aims and objectives and ensuring that you provide feedback for work completed. All members of the team were supportive and informative; willing to share their experiences
I was extremely busy, more so than interns in different departments. I had a large amount of responsiblity and this was reflected in the amount and difficulty of work I was given. I often worked late and through my lunch hour, but this was noted by those within the department.
I was responsible for the files for a number of large firm engagements. It was interesting to note that I was given work, which had I not completed it, it would have been completed by a level two with a charge out rate of £430 per hour.
I developed a number of skills; communication, time management, teaming etc. I was also able to develop skills required for client facing engagements.
The Company
Although all members of my team worked extremely hard, it was not relentless and a great atmosphere was maintained within the office. We did not sit in silence all day, although naturally there are periods where concentration had to be maintained.
All paperwork was sent to me beforehand and the induction weekend, office induction and IT induction were well organised and ran smoothly. I encountered no difficulties with any of my inductions and all questions I did have were answered sufficiently.
The firm invested a large amount of time and money in the interns. We attended a two day induction where we learned about the importance of teaming, communication and more indepth knowledge of the firm, its service lines and procedures. We also had regular meetings with our counsellors to ensure that we were getting the most out of our placements.
Company Parties/Events
Will hear within the next two weeks whether a graduate job will be offered. Will definitely accept!
The Culture
We met all regional interns at the induction and formed cross-office friendships. We also met as interns in the Leeds office for drinks and socials.
Extremely reasonable as Leeds is a typical student style, vibrant city.
Leeds is a very good night out!
Opportunities to become involved with the netball team for the Leeds EY office.
