The Role
I really enjoyed my internship with Standard Life - I felt that I was given interesting and challenging work to do, which made me feel that I was contributing to the company.
My colleagues were extremely helpful throughout the whole internship and made me feel very welcome in the teams in which I worked.
My managers were always there to give me support and guidance, and arranged regular catchups to make sure that I was neither bored nor overwhelmed by the work I was given.
I almost always had enough work to do, and when I didn't have anything to do for my managers, colleagues in the teams would give me tasks to do.
I was given a great deal of autonomy at Standard Life - I was allowed to hold meetings and work on projects on my own, as well as being responsible for meeting deadlines. I was also given responsible tasks to complete by colleagues.
All of the skills that I have acquired or developed at Standard Life are transferable, and my time here has stood me in good stead for my last year at university as well as for my future career.
The Company
The atmosphere was always lively; my colleagues all got on well so there was a great ambiance in the office.
The internship was very well structured - I was given real tasks with clearly defined timescales which meant that I always had work to do.
The company invested a lot in me, from training days to conferences and lunch and learns.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare from home
If offered, I would delighted to accept a job with Standard Life.
The Culture
I saw my fellow interns regularly and we arranged various events together throught the internship.
The area where I was based was relatively cheap and going out was not too expensive.
The nightlife in Edinburgh is much the same as in any other city
We would occasionally go for lunch or out for drinks after work. There were also various social or sports clubs which staff could join.
