The Role
Always help at hand, and never felt I was a burden
Provide a very strong basis for getting to know your cohort, and we all left the internship as a very strong friendship group. In my day to day job my work colleagues welcomed me straight into the team like I had always been there and even had a few after work socials with them.
Never felt afraid to ask questions, there is always support if you need it but they encourage you to try and solve things on your own (which is a good thing!)
They certainly push you and there is a lot of work to do whether its for a group project or your day-to-day job, but if your like me you like being busy. However I never felt overwhelmed and that I wouldn't complete anything I had to
Specific to my placement I was given a large amount of responsibilities working on managing a project with me and the project manager.
They really push to provide you with managing and networking with people, something that is useful in whatever career you follow.
The Company
It was working in an office/at a desk, however the open plan atmosphere means you don't get bored. I also had the opportunity to go off site at least once a week to visit different departments and participate in a variety of projects so its not staring at a computer 24/7!
Everything is set out before you start so you can plan around key event you need to attend. HR were extremely organised!
Heavy amount of support including skill sessions and events that develop you, not just for Barclays, but you on a personal level that is extremely useful to take back to university
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Would jump at the chance to continue working for the company
The Culture
Our cohort were fantastic at organising social events out of work. Everyone got on incredibly well and no doubt will stay in touch.
I was in Manchester so the cost of living was considerably less. However as expected London is more expensive
Placements in a big city are always great. Plenty of places to go out.
There are various events organised by the internship that many of us continued afterwards, but the majority of activities out of work were organised separately. As we had a great cohort these were plentiful
