The Role
I enjoyed my internship a great deal. This is due both to the members of my team and also to the interesting work I have been given. Looking at different financial products and trying to understand what they are and why people would want to invest has probably been the most enjoyable part.
I have definitely felt valued by my colleagues. I have been given work that is of value along with my comments and suggestions being taken seriously.
Support and guidance has been good. Whenever I have had a question or a problem of any kind, my team leader and line manager have always tried to give the best answer and explain things to me clearly.
I never did not have anything to do. Most days I had various tasks to complete and ongoing projects so I could vary my day but also had a bigger task that I was always working on. This was particularly satisfying as along with doing daily tasks I could also put my name on a project that will be used by the team for a long time after I finish the internship.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility. Everything I did was important to the teams daily work and it was imperative that I was accurate or there might be serious repercussions down the line. Despite this, there is still only a limited amount of responsibility you can have as an intern without going through proper training with read only access to certain systems.
I have developed a lot of skills during my internship. The most significant being my confidence in talking to people I do not know and those in much more senior positions than me. This will definitely help me in my final year and university, giving me the ability to approach lecturers and professors with questions. I have also learned to appreciate which skills from university are applicable in a job and will hope to develop this more during my last year.
The Company
The general atmosphere was friendly and fairly informal as opposed to what I was expecting. It enabled a good work ethic with teams often moving around the office to talk to other teams rather than just emailing.
It was very well organised right from the beginning with a week on intern wide training and motivational speaker sessions. We had all the information we would need from the start such as directions, educational packages and information about our fellow interns.
UBS invested a great deal in us. The extent of the opportunities, presentations and events set up for us helped personal development in their potential graduates.

Very appealing. I really like UBS and the people here and would be very happy to come back here on the graduate scheme. There are always opportunities to move around within Operations and even to experience other divisions completely and internal moves are accomodated.
The Culture
Everyone wanted to go out and have fun as well as work so we all organised drinks after work and nights out. I also had dinners and drinks with my team and other colleagues.
London is expensive both for living and socialising. You can always find cheap places to go but you have to know where to look. I have lived at home during my internship so that has cut my costs a lot although the commute is long and expensive.
There is anything and everything you can want in London.
We were involved in community work which was helping out at a local sports day for kids. There were many other oppurtunities to get involved with things like this outside and within the office.
