    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really enjoyed my time at GSK. Probably the best year of my life. Had some fantastic days/nights out, met some brilliant people, but the stress & hours that come with the job compensate for the good.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • You're given a 'real' job, not just filling a gap to make tea and print. However, did sometimes feel that my opinion wasn't taken on board because of my position.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Don't take my mark on this as the status quo. Unfortunately had 2 managers over the first 6 months (both moved on with internal promotions). Did not have a manager for my final half of the year. Did hinder my development but was supported by the team still.

    2/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Too busy. Found myself working v long hours, at weekends and bank holidays. Mainly due to the team not being fully resourced, however this has since changed.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Did not get the chance to attend buyers meetings and see the results of my work. However did get the opportunity to sell products in to Tesco and work on the dot com plan.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • On the job skills and personal development = massive. Training received = Sales training. Useful but would have liked to get more involved. Partly my fault, but in some cases not considered/informed about available training.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very fun & dynamic office. Fantastic atmosphere. People very friendly and always able to find time out to advise/support you despite their busy work schedules.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Following the merge in the company, became slightly disorganised - working on accounts I shouldn't be on.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 9/10. Despite a lack of manager for last half of the year, team would support me if needed. Also received interview training from a colleague as part of my development.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Given an opportunity to apply for 'fast-track' to get straight to the assessment centre of the grad scheme.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Regular nights out on Thurs & Fri. Within the team, very sociable and always up for a laugh.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Commuted from North London, however know that it isn't cheap - paying London prices.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Area wasn't great as such. A couple of pubs. However, 30minutes from central London.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Gym had lots of clubs & classes (running, spinning,....) Regular 5 a side football

    4/5
