The Role
Extremely enjoyable with helpful staff. Company puts on a lot of meetings etc to learn more about the business and everyone is more than happy to meet up to talk about their job. Also with the other Interns very social and with Edinburgh being a fantastic city to live in, there was always something to do.
From the first day was treated equally and given proper work to do which would benefit the team and the company. After a couple of weeks it's almost like you've been there for months with everyone talking freely.
Meetings arranged with my manager each week to discuss how things were going and where I could improve. With a stream head, buddy and other interns their was always some to talk too if every needed. In the first couple of weeks I was given clear objectives as to what I needed to do and each meeting we discussed where I was with those and how they were going.
Due to the nature of work and time in the team my workload reduced quite a lot for a week in the middle of the Internship but then picked up giving me a lot to do - which was perfect for me as I much prefer to be too busy then have nothing to do.
I was given tasks which other people in my team were doing which were important to the company - I never felt as an Intern during the period with people giving me work which needed doing which was beneficial for the company.
Whilst the job was not directly linked to my course of study it convinced me that I wanted to do this role as a full time job and skills gained in working in teams/offices etc are always beneficial
The Company
Good atmosphere but it is an office and work does need to be done. It's what I expected working in a friendly team.
Lots of support available, clear objectives set with meetings to discuss them and tasks available for me to do. Also the company providing events for us to learn more was well planned and enjoyable.
Everyone within the company seemed able to find time to talk to us, from graduates to directors and even the CEO came and gave a short talk to us on the welcome day. They clearly show that they value you in the company and want to give you the best experience possible. With all the support available to you and with 'real' work to do, it's set up for you to grow.
Sports and Social Club
Healthcare from home
There is a job available at the end with the graduate scheme extremely successful however won't learn until 2 weeks after the finishing date but early signs are promising.
The Culture
Whilst some of the other interns came from Edinburgh, those put up in the flats (paid for by the company)and a few others were extremely social and I ended up spending most nights and weekends with them. Also the team I worked in had a social and meal towards the end of my Internship and in a city such as Edinburgh, there is always something to do.
Cost of accomodationw as paid for by the company and rest was average price. Not as cheap as a city such as Sheffield, Leeds etc but a lot cheaper than London.
Lots of pubs, bars, cinema's etc. There was always something to do if you wanted.
I signed up to the company Football team within the first week and played some 6,7 and 11 a side football which was good. Other than that I didn't really look in all honesty, there was always something to do so didn't feel the need.
