The Role
There is a mix of people within your team, so it depends on the individual if they value your help. The only issue is when there are lots of staff around because not all of them understand the role of an Intern, especially if the branch has never had one before.
You have lots of people to support you. You are assinged a line manager and a 'buddy' on the graduate programme, who helps advise you.
My branch was really busy so there was usually something to do. It is definitely up to the individual to make sure they are kept busy, you have to take an intiative, if not you can be left just sitting at your desk not really doing much.
Again this is up to whether the intern takes control and asks for responsibility.
Working for bank is always useful. Everyone needs banks! So it is good to know a bit about how they run behind the scenes.
The Company
People were a lot older than myself, but everyone would joke around with me and have fun.
The information provided wasn't very detailed
HSBC invests greatly in their interns. We are paid salary for the internship and they pay for our expenses on training trips away. This year we went to Northampton and Leeds.
Subsidised/Company Gym
HSBC really focus on their values of being open, connected and dependable. These are really important to me too.
The Culture
On our trips away the interns would go out together.
We went out for drinks as a branch when I was leaving.
