The Role
I will definitely be perusing a career within this company. It may get a bad name at times, but the work is very rewarding.
I have worked within different areas so it varied from place to place, but i never once felt like a student, i always felt like part of the multidisciplinary team.
I have always been supported throughout training.
Again it depended on the area. One area was eye theatre at an NHS hospital, and it was quite boring. I would advise that students should not have a long placement here, and maybe just a few days.
Just enough to handle, as I am not yet qualified I could not take on my own patients etc., but the tasks could handle, I was trusted to carry out.
The skills learned are skills that will be extremely important in my career, I cannot find a fault in how I was trained and am extremely grateful for having the opportunity to gain these skills.
The Company
In most areas, it was quite good, chilled but work always got done.
In one area mentioned before the placement wasnt set up well, I had to wait each morning to be told where to go and what to do, and wasn't put on the rota like the rest of the staff. This was quite annoying as I like to be efficient and know what i'm doing before i'm pushed into it.
They allowed study days if I had any exams coming up, and let me have access to their library. If I asked to be shown something or how to do something there was rarely and hesitation.
Every higher member of staff has told me once i qualify they would be happy to have me working with them.
The Culture
There wasn't really a social scene.
The pay is only an NHS bursary so there is no money left at the end of the cost of living to socialize.
as above.
Mostly just Trust charity events.
