    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Overall, the internship was enjoyable. It was hard work at points and it felt a bit daunting to begin with but I think this is like starting any new job. I was given graduate-type work and not given the stereotypical intern work to do (ie. make coffee, photocopy etc) and was given some level of responsibility, talking to the client and completing tasks.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone was so welcoming and friendly - from 1st year to partner. I thought I'd be a bit of an annoyance for the people I worked for/with but they totally understood my position and the need for me to ask lots of questions.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • As I said before, people understood that I would have lots of questions and they always took the time to explain what I had to do.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Over the 4 weeks, I was on 4 different jobs - during my first 3 weeks, I was kept busy with plenty work to do. During my last week, I was on a job that had went better than expected so they kind of ran out of things for me to do. After a while though, I was given some work to do from other jobs and I actually ended up with too much to do to be able to finish it before I left after my last day.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given small sections of the audit to do and it was my responsibility to chase up any information I needed from the client. I wouldn't say I was given total responsibility for a whole section but I felt involved in the audit. Others relied on the work I had done and came back to me to follow up on points left with the client. I would say it was a good level of responsibility - not too much and not too little.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I wouldn't say the skills developed would help to a great extent in my degree studies. The internship did highlight some issues within audit that could be studied further during my degree. I feel having the practical experience will definitely help when studying. The experience will definitely help when applying for jobs - it gave me a real insight into a graduate position at the Big 4 and helped in deciding whether audit was what I wanted to do.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone was really friendly and were able to have a chat in the office but people still got on with their work.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The induction in Crewe was well organised but I had some issues concerning the length of my internship - was told two different things by graduate recruitment. Overall though, I felt it was organised pretty well but could have been better.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were given a laptop and access to basically all of the resources available to a regular employee.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The company are a good company to work for and I definitely wouldn't turn down a job offer from them but if I am to be honest, in terms of the big 4, there are aspects of the others that appeal to me more.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social aspect in the evening during the induction was really good even if we were just in the hotel. Withing the department, over the 4 weeks I was there, we had a few lunches out as well as some social events in the evening but as far as I know, nothing more was organised for the interns as a group.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As a city, Glasgow was pretty reasonably priced.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Being Glasgow, there was plenty to choose from.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • In terms of the company, the interns were invited to a CSR day plus as a department, there was a summer BBQ at a partner's house as well as other nights out but as far as I know, nothing specific was organised for the interns as a whole group (unlike other companies).
