The Role
It was quite enjoyable. Not too stressful.
Mostly given projects that no-one was depending on.
Told not to ask too many questions as they are very busy. Spent a lot of time rewriting code due to specification changes, weeks after starting projects.
Not too much work.
Projects were not business critical
I learnt several new computation techniques required for my projects. Coming from an engineering degree many of the new skills did not fully relate to my degree course. The new skills would be transferable in a computing role, but otherwise they are quite specific.
The Company
It varys from time to time. When deadlines are approaching it is quite quiet. Otherwise there is a good atmosphere.
There are many events planned throughout the internship. Several of these were in evenings which was inconvenient if you have a packed social life. HR are very keen on keeping track of you and it can become quite bureaucratic.
We received a couple training days in the first week. Much of this was not that useful to our actual placements. There was a course on Excel which was quite basic and seemed a waste of time, but none the less the company did invest in us.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Very much depends on your division. It is also very much up to you to chase opportunities.
The Culture
The other interns were quite social within technology. They organised many of their own events.
Most places nearby are expensive given the nature of our work.
Pretty decent places, but once again it is expensive.
There were some activities for the interns to do work outside of the company and more so if you wanted to chase them.
