The Role
Really enjoyable, UBS offers a wide range of extra activities and dependent on your desk you get a lot of work to do. Even if you don't have work to do people are always willing to allow you to sit with them.
As valued as an intern on a trading desk can feel considering you can't really help them.
A lot of the time you have to ask for guidance but once again this is just about being proactive.
It again depends on how many projects you have and how much networking you want to do but I was often in till 9pm and getting in at 6am however I know people how work no where near as long as that.
A large amount of responsibility with regards to the projects.
The work I was doing was highly relevant to my degree, for example in Equities I was carrying out statistical analysis which included linear regression, data mining and also analysis.
The Company
As with any trading desk in the summer sometimes flow was not at its most but this is sometimes good for an intern as it means your colleagues have more time for you.
Everything was well set up from all sides.
We had talks by the co head of the investment bank, the senior economist and head of GCM so it can't get much more involved than that.
As with any placement in the industry times are challenging so it is uncertain.
The Culture
Every friday night interns would go out together.
It's london so its fairly expensive.
Great.
As with anything you make your own opportunities so yes if you go for it.
