The Role
The rotation I was placed on allowed me to see different sides to the bank and hence gain a better understanding of what I wanted to do. I became aware of new roles which I previously did not know and will consider these roles when deciding what to do in my career. The rotation in equities was particularly enjoyable - something I did not expect when applying to FICC.
Very dependant on desk. My desk in equities was incredibly friendly and gave me resposbility to prove myself early on. On my desks in FICC I had to push for work and a chance to prove myself. Much as I appreciate it is hard for an intern to contribute to every day work, more responsibility would have made me felt more valued by my colleagues. Saying this, if ever in need of help the desk were very friendly when it was less busy.
The support within the firm, through grads on the desk and the buddy system is really strong and meant that coping with any problems was a lot easier.
Due to the lack of work, I was a little bored. But equally I could spend this time on the intern activites e.g. the trading game and shadowing people on other desks.
Please see above. Very dependant on desk.
A really fantastic oppurtunity and do not regret any of it. I am incredibly grateful for the experience in the work place, the lessons I have learnt about the industry and the job and the skills I have taken from completing projects along with the knowledge I have taken.
The Company
Great atmosphere, and large variation between desks meant that it was ever changing.
The intern activities alongside the rotations are exceptionally well run and useful. The networking sessions early on to meet other interns were particularly good.
The amount of training/help on the desk and in the training week from senior members of the firm was really a surprise to me.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
I hope to receive an offer because I have sincerely enjoyed myself throughout.
The Culture
As mentionned above, the company helped early on with networking amongst interns and from there the social life has been really good.
n/a - lived at home. But London is reasonably expensive, especially durign the Olympics - but UBS helped with accommodation for interns who did live here.
There are endless things to do in London
Not really, but the oppurtunities within work made up for it.
