The Role
It was enjoyable to the extent that I was usually still thinking about what I'd done at work on the way home.
I consistently got good feedback, to show that they were showing a genuine interest in what I was doing and how I was doing it.
I have never had such a supportive manager in any previous job. Never minded being asked questions, and seemed to view my work as an important part of business.
Usually busy enough that I was occupied for the course of the day, but I never had enough work to challenge me.
Quite a lot of unsupervised customer contact by telephone, in particular with important potential customers. Some input into client meetings.
My understanding of accountancy in particular has been assisted by the work I have been doing.
The Company
Poor. Recent job losses an redeployments had made morale very low.
The setup of the internship could have been better - for example being told our placement office further in advance, and being given more notice of the arrangements for our mid-internship engagement event. Mostly, though, while we were on the internship, organisation was quite strong.
Very good. The engagment event at First Direct was genuinely useful, and localised supervision was strong.
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
I would consider an offer from them, dependent on the nature of the offer.
The Culture
Very mixed - there was no social scene on location at all, but when all interns met up together, the social scene was very good.
I was able to live in my local area, which kept costs low.
There is not good nightlife in this area.
There were many opportunities, but all were organised centrally for interns in general; none were on location with colleagues.
