The Role
I enjoyed working at ARM, the team I was in was very friendly and helpful, however the project I was working on didn't interest me as much as I could, I am looking on returning to the company in a different role.
I felt very valued within the team I worked and was included in many meetings and talks about their work
My manager was very friendly and always available for discussions and help when needed
I was given a project to work on during my placement and pretty much left to get on with it. There were a few time when I had to wait for other people to finish or prepare things for me and with only the single project there wasn't a lot for me to do in these times however this was not a frequent occurrence and often could not be helped
Within the project I was working on I had quite a lot of responsibility and able to make decisions on how the project should be completed, however my manager was always available to give his views and help when I was unsure or stuck.
I learnt a lot about the company and what it is like to work there, I was also able to apply many things I have learnt at university and improve my knowledge in certain areas. However due to the project not quite being what I would like to end up doing I am unsure how much I will use the knowledge I learnt in the future
The Company
Everyone was friendly in the office and although most of the time people worked to themselves, there was often interesting discussions and chats within the office and most of us ate lunch together in the company canteen
The placement was well organised with a structured induction on the first day and training in ARM products as well as the working environment and computer systems. The project I was working on was planned and a lot of information was ready for to immediately get stuck into my work
I was given training in ARM products and the company when I started, I was also invited to many talks from other employees on their particular work. Also I took part in a career development session to try and plan how to get the most out of my placement
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
The company have shown interest in hiring me when I finish my degree next year
The Culture
All the summer students were introduced to each other within ARM organised events (pizza evening etc.). As well as this students often organised get togethers in the evenings and a few pub lunches during my placement
The cost of socialising was fairly average, however the cost of rent was high in many areas resulting in me living quite far away from the centre of town making it awkward to socialise in the evenings
There is a wide range of activities and places to go in the evenings.
Not only events organised by the placement students during my placement ARM also held their annual summer barbecue which all placement students are invited. Also ARM took part in the annual London to Cambridge bike ride for charity which all placement students were invited to take part in.
